Building a Boat in Cramped Quarters

or "So many boat, so little room!"

Adding the Sheer Clamp:

This is made from four 22 foot strips of mohagany (two per side) which are laminated together with epoxy. Since I could only find 11 foot mohagany boards, we ripped eight strips from the boards, scarfed them end-to-end to make ~22 foot long pieces, and bent them around the sheer, clamping and screwing them in place until the epoxy set.

This turned out to be much less trouble than it sounds; certainly less than the chine logs.

We did not have nearly as many clamps as we would have liked, but the curve helped us keep the laminates together.

I hear you can make clamps by taking short lengths of PVC pipe and cutting a lengthwise slit in them. I also hear you can make nitroglycerine from hand lotion and deck of playing cards. I haven't tried that, either.

The large build-up of thickened epoxy on the stem was added because we thought we had set the breast hook too far forward. This turned out to be unnecessary, as it was almost totally planed away during the fairing process
